Becoming an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AME) requires a combination of education, training, and experience. Here is a general overview of the steps you can take to become an AME:

Education:

  • Pursue a Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (AME) or B.E or B.Tech in Aerospace Engineering or related field.
  • Most of the institutions that offer Aircraft Maintenance Engineering courses are approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), India’s regulatory body for civil aviation.

Training:

  • After completing the educational program, you will need to complete a specified period of practical training as per DGCA norms.
  • This training will take place in an aircraft maintenance organization (AMO) and will provide you with hands-on experience working on aircraft and their systems.

Licensing:

  • Once you have completed your education and training, you will need to pass a written examination and practical test to obtain an AME license from the DGCA.
  • The license will be valid for certain type of aircrafts and certain systems of those aircrafts.

Experience:

  • After obtaining an AME license, you will need to gain experience working as an AME in order to advance in your career.
